BROMSGROVE Sporting suffered a second-half collapse to exit the FA Cup at the first qualifying round stage following a heavy 5-2 defeat against Evesham United.

The Rouslers led at the break courtesy of quickfire goals from Nick Clayton-Phillips and Billy Shaw at the Spiers and Hartwell Stadium after Levi Steele put the home side ahead.

However, Evesham stunned the Rouslers with three goals in the space of nine second-half minutes as Reegan Messenger scored a brace while Andre Wright also found the net.

And Lewis Middleton added a late fifth goal for the home side as Sporting’s FA Cup campaign ended at the first hurdle.

Both Evesham and Sporting play at Step Three with the Robins plying their trade in the Southern League Premier South.

And the home side broke the deadlock on 18 minutes when Steele found the bottom left corner from inside the penalty area.

However, the Rouslers equalised on 29 minutes as Clayton-Phillips curled a shot into the top corner from 20-yards out.

And Bromsgrove completed the turnaround three minutes later when Shaw finished through the legs of Jenson Kilroy after the Evesham stopper kept out Kobe Hall’s initial effort.

However, Messenger drew the Robins level on 54 minutes when he forced the ball home following a scramble in the box after Sporting failed to deal with a corner from the right.

And Evesham reclaimed the lead two minutes later the ball broke kindly to Messenger in the box and the Robins man scored his second of the game.

Sporting conceded again on 63 minutes as Wright turned a defender inside out before lashing a shot past Adam Harrison at his near post.

And the home side completed the scoring one minute from time when Ethan Dunbar squared the ball to substitute Middleton who finished into an empty net.

Bromsgrove are next in action against St Ives Town on Saturday, September 6 with kick-off at 3pm at the Victoria Ground.
