PAUL Smith praised his side’s response after Bromsgrove Sporting returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory against 10-man Spalding United.
Sporting struck either side of half time courtesy of goals from Charlie Wragg and Kieran Cook to seal a comfortable win at the Victoria Ground.
And Rouslers boss Smith praised the character of his side after Sporting secured their first home win of the campaign.
Smith said: “It’s a fantastic victory, we got a lot of things wrong against Stratford, it was crucial we got back to a performance similar to the Hitchin one and we’ve done that in bucketloads.
“The boys have shown a lot of character, I thought the performance had a lot of heart, desire and hunger, we had to go a little bit more direct but I thought it was a very comfortable win.
“We will win some and we will lose some this year, it’s important when we lose we learn from it, knuckle down and respond quite quickly and they’ve done that.
“There were lots of positives but it is important we don’t go overboard with a win or a defeat. They’ve put a real statement out as a group.”
Sporting broke the deadlock on 34 minutes when Wragg latched onto a scooped ball into the box and coolly finished into the bottom corner.
And the Rouslers secured the points on the hour mark as Cook confidently placed a penalty in the bottom right corner after Spalding handled in the box.
The visitors finished the game with 10-men after defender Sam Warburton fouled Sporting substitute Harry Crook and received a second yellow card.
Bromsgrove are next in action away at Lowestoft Town on Saturday, August 24 with kick-off at 3pm at the Crown Meadow.
