FOOTBALL - Bromsgrove Sporting remain winless at home after Coalville defeat

BROMSGROVE Sporting suffered a second successive home defeat as the Rouslers were thrashed 4-1 by Coalville Town in midweek.

Sporting halved the deficit in the second half courtesy of Prince Henry’s goal after Elliot Putman’s penalty and an Ollie Taylor own goal put Coalville into a two-goal lead.

However, two late goals from Tim Berridge took the game out of Sporting’s reach while Rouslers midfielder Billy Shaw saw red in injury time at the Victoria Ground.

The result means Bromsgrove sit 16th in the Southern League Premier Central table after three matches.

Sporting made a bright start as in-form striker Henry was twice denied by Coalville goalkeeper Dean Snedker.

However, Coalville won a penalty on the stroke of half time after Ashley Chambers went down in the box as Putman sent Taylor the wrong way from the resulting spot kick.

And the visitors doubled their lead on 58 minutes when Taylor parried Putman’s corner from the right into his own net.

Sporting reduced the deficit on 67 minutes when Henry raced into the box and fired an effort past Snedker via the aid of the left-hand post.

However, Coalville sealed victory on 78 minutes as Berridge finished from close range before the same player scored another tap in two minutes from time.

And the game ended on a sour note for Sporting with Shaw shown a straight red card following a challenge on Joe Doyle-Charles.

Bromsgrove are next in action away at Leiston on Saturday, August 19 with kick-off at 3pm at Victory Road.
