BROMSGROVE Sporting have named the club’s record-appearance holder Aaron Roberts as the side’s new captain.

Roberts takes the armband after returning to the Rouslers earlier this campaign following a short spell with local rivals Redditch United.

Sporting lost former skipper Reece King to Malvern Town in November while his replacement as captain, Ash Carter, then left the club last month.

And recently-appointed Sporting boss Tim Flowers has now selected Roberts as his captain for the remainder of the campaign.

Roberts said: “After what has been a hectic few weeks for the club, the dust finally seems to be settling and I feel privileged the gaffer has chosen me to be club captain.

“I’ve always liked to think that I play the game with leadership, in terms of both being vocal and my playing style, and I look forward to leading the team on and off the pitch.

“Using my experience to help push us back up the table and start picking up some valuable points.”

Roberts has made 349 appearances for Bromsgrove and previously captained former clubs Alvechurch, Worcester City and Evesham United.
