KEANU Cooper’s goal earned Bromsgrove Sporting a credible point in a 1-1 draw with league leaders Mickleover at the Victoria Ground.

Cooper opened the scoring in the second half only for Oliver Greaves to level from the penalty spot soon after as the Rouslers became the first team to take points off of Mickleover this season.

And the result means Sporting sit 10th in the Southern League Premier Central table, four points outside of the play-off places.

Mickleover had won all 11 of their league games coming into the fixture, scoring a division high 34 goals in the process while conceding only five.

However, Sporting proved more than a match for their high-flying opponents as Mickleover goalkeeper Oliver Bosworth made a crucial save just before the half-hour mark to keep out Cooper’s shot from close range.

And after Cooper went close again with a header after the break, the same player finally broke the deadlock on 67 minutes with a fine effort from Ayo Lekuti’s pass.

However, Mickleover equalised just five minutes later as Greaves scored from the penalty spot after Joe Bateman drew a foul in the box.

Neither side created a clear-cut opening in the remaining minutes as the Rouslers ended Mickleover’s 11-game winning with a determined performance throughout.

Sporting are next in action at home to Hitchin Town on Saturday, October 21 with kick-off at 3pm at the Victoria Ground.
