BROMSGROVE Sporting ended the campaign with a 3-1 home defeat against play-off bound Real Bedford on the final day of the season.

Sporting fell behind to Josh Allen’s early goal only for Kyle Belmonte to draw the home side level at the Victoria Ground.

However, further goals from Josh Setchell and Archie Jones condemned the Rouslers to a final day defeat.

The result means Bromsgrove end the Southern League Premier Central season in 18th place, just one position and five points above the relegation zone.

Bromsgrove had already secured safety following victory against Stratford Town last weekend.

Prior to kick-off, Rouslers midfielder Billy Shaw received a salver to mark his 100th appearance for the club against Stratford last weekend.

However, Sporting made the worst possible start as Allen put Bedford ahead after just four minutes when he turned home Setchell’s cross.

Allen could have scored a hat-trick inside the first quarter-hour as he twice failed to hit the target and saw another effort stopped on the line by Sporting stopper Rory Brown.

The Rouslers drew level on 22 minutes when Belmonte volleyed the ball over the Bedford goalkeeper from George Wynne’s pass.

Bedford reclaimed the lead deep into first-half injury time as the ball ricocheted off Setchell’s foot and into the net from Brown’s initial save.

And the visitors extended their lead six minutes into the second period when Jones found the bottom corner from Ben Stevens’ cross.
