BROMSGROVE Sporting slipped to a 2-1 home defeat against Banbury United on Non-League Day.
The Rouslers fell behind to Harry Reilly’s early goal before veteran striker Theo Robinson drew Sporting level at the Victoria Ground.
However, AJ George restored Banbury’s lead early in the second half to condemn Sporting to defeat in front of more than 1,000 spectators.
The result means Bromsgrove sit 14th in the Southern League Premier Central table, eight points clear of the relegation zone.
To celebrate a recent partnership established with La Liga side Athletic Bilbao, Sporting played the Spanish club’s anthem as the teams entered the pitch before kick-off.
However, Banbury broke the deadlock on 14 minutes when Charlie Price fumbled a harmless looking low ball across the box and Reilly pounced to finish into an empty net from close range.
Sporting equalised on the half-hour mark as Robinson acrobatically finished into the bottom right corner from eight-yards out after Billy Shaw nodded the ball into the striker’s path.
The visitors reclaimed the lead on 52 minutes when George drilled a low effort through the clutches of Price from 25-yards out.
Bromsgrove are next in action against Harborough Town on Tuesday, March 25 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the Victoria Ground.
