BROMSGROVE Sporting suffered a quarter-final exit in the Worcestershire Senior Cup after losing 1-0 away at lower league Evesham United.

The Rouslers fell behind to Ethan Moran’s goal on 40 minutes and were unable to find an equaliser at the Spiers and Hartwell Jubilee Stadium.

Evesham play one level below Sporting in the Southern League Division One South and dumped the Rouslers out of last season’s competition at the Victoria Ground.

The home side almost took the lead in the first couple of minutes when a goalmouth scramble ensued in the Sporting penalty box with Evesham unable to force the ball over the line.

And Sporting goalkeeper Ollie Taylor then tipped William Owens’ deflected effort from distance around the post while Billy Shaw shot straight at Robins stopper Dominic Hill at the other end.

However, Evesham broke the deadlock five minutes before half time when Moran’s well-struck drive found the bottom corner.

Sporting searched for a leveller in the second period as Conor Tee fired wide from long range while player-manager Mike McGrath had a goal ruled out for offside.

However, the Rouslers were unable to draw level as Sporting saw their Senior Cup campaign come to an end at the first hurdle.

Bromsgrove are next in action at home to Royston Town on Saturday, January 13 with kick-off at 3pm at the Victoria Ground.
