BROMSGROVE Sporting conceded three second-half goals in a 3-0 defeat at Leek Town to exit the FA Trophy at the first round stage.

A brace from Alex Hurst either side of Oliver Shenton’s strike condemned the Rouslers to defeat at the F. Ball Community Stadium.

Leek play at the same level as Sporting and ply their trade in the Northern Premier League Premier Division.

Bromsgrove spurned a couple of early chances to take the lead as Charlie Pavey twice fired narrowly wide of the target.

At the other end, Liam Buckley hit the post for Leek while Adam Harrison denied Adam Porter as the first half ended goalless.

Sporting went close after the break as James Sanderson saw his shot tipped behind by Leek goalkeeper Dino Visser.

However, Leek broke the deadlock on 62 minutes when Hurst scored from the penalty spot after Jack Kelly handled the ball in the box.

The Rouslers spurned a golden chance to draw level 10 minutes later as Reece King shot straight at Visser when through one-on-one.

Harrison then produced a fine reaction save to keep out Lucas Weir’s close-range effort before also denying Tom Curl.

However, the home side doubled their lead on 81 minutes when Shenton drove a low effort into the net through a crowd of bodies following a set-piece.

And Leek completed the scoring three minutes into injury time as Hurst curled a low shot into the corner from the edge of the penalty area.

Bromsgrove are next in action against Leiston on Saturday, November 1 with kick-off at 3pm at the Victoria Ground.
