BROMSGROVE Sporting claimed a vital 2-0 win away at relegation rivals St Ives Town in a major boost to the club’s survival hopes.
Goals either side of half time from Theo Robinson and Luke Benbow, the latter scoring from the penalty spot, earned the Rouslers just a third away win of the season at Westwood Road.
The result means Sporting sit 17th in the Southern League Premier Central table, four points clear of the relegation zone with two matches left to play.
Bromsgrove went close early on as Billy Shaw and Jack Kelly failed to capitalise on opportunities when well-placed.
Former Sporting stopper Ollie Taylor kept the game scoreless just past the half-hour mark as the St Ives keeper tipped Benbow’s effort over the crossbar.
The home side responded with a chance of their own as Neo Dobson powered an effort wide of the goal.
However, Bromsgrove broke the deadlock three minutes before half time when Robinson looped a header over Taylor and into the net from Kelly’s free-kick.
The Sporting wall then stood tall to block Michael Ricens’ free-kick from the edge of the box in first-half injury time.
Rouslers goalkeeper Rory Brown also denied Dobson twice after the break to keep Sporting in front.
And the visitors doubled their lead from the penalty spot eight minutes from time as Benbow fired home from 12-yards after substitute Shay Willock drew a foul in the box.
Bromsgrove are next in action against Stratford Town on Saturday, April 18 with kick-off at 3pm at the Arden Garages Stadium.
