PAUL Smith believes a top-half finish for Bromsgrove Sporting this season would equate to the Rouslers winning the league ahead of their return to league action against Banbury United this weekend.
Sporting exited the FA Trophy at the Third Round Qualifying stage following a 1-0 defeat at Step Four Chasetown as Sporting striker Charlie Wragg had a penalty saved before Jack Langston’s 63rd minute goal settled the tie at the Scholars Ground.
However, despite suffering defeat against lower league opposition, Smith insists Sporting are still on track to achieve their goals this season.
Smith said: “We know where we are as a club, we still don’t recognise that this year was going to be a difficult year.
“We’re looking for a halfway finish, a top-half finish would be unbelievable.
“We’re still on song to get where we need to be, a halfway finish this year is us winning the league.
“We understand that and it’s important the players realise that, I’ve come from groups where I’m expected to win every single game and it’s difficult not doing that.
“It’s a new challenge, it’s something I’m really enjoying, we’re looking to bring in some reinforcements, I’m hopeful there’ll be two or three through the door.
“There’s ongoing talks with players at the moment, we desperately just need some reinforcements to take some pressure off the boys we’ve got at the moment.
“There’s no easy game in this division but when the chips are down it’s important those boys stick their chests out and go for it again.”
Bromsgrove travel to Banbury on Saturday, October 12 with kick-off at 3pm at the Banbury Plant Hire Community Stadium.
