BROMSGROVE Sporting manager Paul Smith says the players have made a promising start to their pre-season training programme.

And he also praised the group for the way they have looked after themselves in the close season after the first few sessions to prepare for the 2024-25 Southern League Premier Central campaign.

“In years gone by, players would come back to the squad out of shape, and use pre-season to get fit,” said Smith. “However, the lads nowadays keep themselves ticking over throughout the summer and that’s a credit to them.

“This group have looked fit and hungry in the first couple of sessions.

“Like with any new group, it is important to get the team spirit and togetherness going as soon as possible.”

Sporting posted pictures of an ‘army training session’ on social media involving the players which he said helped them get the fitness programme off to a great start.

Smith added: “The big characters in the dressing room are there – the skipper Luke Rowe, big Charlie Price, Reece King and, of course, Aaron Roberts.

“They are in and getting around the others, which is great to see. There’s a long way to go to get this group where I want them for the opener on August 10 but, rest assured, it’s been a very positive first week back in.”

The club added it would be releasing more news about the make-up of the squad when it commenced its pre-season campaign.

The Rouslers are due to play a friendly away to Worcester Raiders on Tuesday, July 9 (7.45pm), before they head to AFC Wulfrunians next Saturday, July 13 (3pm).

Bromsgrove Sporting U21s are due to face Solihull Academy away tomorrow (Saturday, July 6) at 12.30pm.
