LUKE Benbow’s late goal earned Bromsgrove Sporting a point in a 2-2 draw away at struggling Stamford.

Benbow levelled the game seven minutes from time after Tyrone Lewthwaite’s early goal put the Rouslers ahead at the Zeeco Stadium.

The home side turned the game on its head courtesy of goals either side of half time from Leon Lobjoit and Michael Armstrong only for Benbow to equalise for Sporting late on.

And the result means Bromsgrove sit 16th in the Southern League Premier Central table, five points clear of the relegation zone.

Sporting took the lead after just 10 minutes when Lewthwaite toe-poked the ball past advancing Stamford goalkeeper Tom Jackson from Jack Kelly’s pass.

However, Stamford equalised four minutes later as Lobjoit finished from close range after Sporting stopper Rory Brown made an initial save.

The home side pressed for a second goal as Jack Keeble headed wide while Brown pushed Rory Wilson’s free-kick to safety.

Stamford had the ball in the net for a second time soon after only for Alex Collard to see his effort ruled out for a foul in the build up.

Sporting responded with a raft of chances of their own as Jackson showed expert reactions to keep out Niall Flint’s deflected volley.

Jackson then held Akai Bonnick’s effort and also kept out Billy Shaw’s shot with the midfielder through one-on-one.

However, Stamford completed the turnaround on 54 minutes when Armstrong placed a shot across goal into the bottom left corner.

Sporting searched for a leveller as Jackson saved Brad Stretton’s powerful strike while Luke Softley saw a penalty appeal turned down by the referee.

However, the Rouslers equalised on 83 miniutes when Jack Newell found Benbow in the box with a pinpoint pass and the striker finished at the second attempt after his initial effort came back off the post.

Bromsgrove are next in action against Harborough Town on Saturday, February 7 with kick-off at 3pm at the Victoria Ground.
