BROMSGROVE Rovers AFC missed the chance to reach the Intermediate Cup final after losing 3-0 to Division 1 high-flyers Claverdon, writes Neil Gordon.

Rovers were 2-0 down inside the opening 17-minutes before conceding a third goal in the closing stages at Arrow Vale Sports and Leisure Centre, Redditch against opponents whose line-up included the former England under-21 and Premier League defender Paul Robinson.

Claverdon opened the scoring when Drew Hill put the ball into an empty net after Dan Sill had forced Rovers’ ‘keeper George Harris to make a great save on 15-minutes.

Just moments later Claverdon doubled-their advantage when Hill and Sill combined again following a throw-in. This time, Sill volleyed Hill’s flick into the top corner to make it 2-0.

Half-time arrived with Claverdon 2-0 up and Bromsgrove unable to get back into the game.

Jamie Robinson sealed Claverdon’s place in the final late on in the second-half when he beat two Bromsgrove defenders before finding the net to make the final score 3-0 to Claverdon.

And Robinson, playing his first season of adults’ football, would have impressed his team mate-father the former Bolton Wanderers, Leeds United, Birmingham City and England under-21 International Paul Robinson whose own performance saw him awarded man-of-the-match.

Bromsgrove return to league action on Saturday, March 23rd against Galore at Lordswood Girls School, Knightlow Road, Birmingham. Kick-off is at 2.30pm with free admission.
