BROMSGROVE Rovers AFC remain in title contention after completing a double over Walsall Phoenix with a 3-0 victory last weekend, writes Neil Gordon.
George Tolley struck in between two second-half Bailey Depper-Gwilliams goals as Rovers secured back-to-back victories for the first time since October and their first clean-sheet of the campaign.
The Greens remain second in Division Two of the Birmingham and District Football League on 31 points, three points behind leaders Silhill who beat basement side Redditch Borough 4-0 at Sharmans Cross Road.
Silhill returned to winning ways after last week’s defeat against Boldmere Sports and Social Falcons, while Borough endured their fifth consecutive loss remaining stuck on just four points from a possible thirty points available.
Walsall Phoenix suffered their fourth defeat in five games and remain ninth in the table on nine points having secured an impressive 3-3 draw against Hopwood Swifts just seven days earlier.
Hopwood Swifts are the toast of Division Two after causing an upset in the semi-finals of the Intermediate Cup against Division One title favourites Galore at Lordswood Road.
Swifts secured their place in the final against either North Solihull or Phoenix Town winning 4-2 on penalties after the game had ended 3-3.
Match of The Day are also celebrating after recording their biggest victory of the season with the 7-1 defeat of Polesworth North Warwicks.
This was The Day’s fourth straight victory and reduced the gap on seventh-placed Nechells Athletic to two points.
Polesworth conceded seven goals for the second time in three games as they remain tenth in the table on seven points from 15 games.
And in the battle of the title challengers, North Solihull recorded a crucial 2-0 victory over Boldmere Sports and Social Falcons at Boldmere Road. The hosts had won their previous six games hitting 27 goals in the process.
However, Solihull won the duel to remain just one point behind Bromsgrove and four points behind leaders Silhill with games in hand, ahead of forthcoming midweek fixtures likely to impact placings in Division Two.
On Tuesday, April 1 Match of the Day travel to Boldmere Sports and Social Falcons looking for their fifth consecutive win, while on Wednesday, April 2 North Solihull play Walsall Phoenix at Coleshill Road and can overtake Bromsgrove in second-place if they win.
And on the same night, Redditch Borough entertain Hopwood Swifts while Match of The Day play their third game in six days against Hampton Sports at Field Lane on Thursday, April 3.
