FOOTBALL - Bromsgrove Rovers AFC on cloud nine after club-record victory

ROBBIE Davies scored five goals as Bromsgrove Rovers AFC secured their biggest-ever victory with a 9-1 thrashing of Benson Cresconians in the Senior Cup, writes Neil Gordon.

Davies added to his four strikes against Phoenix Town seven days earlier, while Ash Pardoe grabbed a hat-trick and substitute Joe Reynolds also scored in this first round tie at Eldorado Close.

For Cresconians, Gedo Khater equalised early on before Rovers overpowered their struggling lower division opponents.

The win marks the Greens biggest victory since the club formed in 2021, surpassing their previous best result of 8-1 against Castlecroft Rangers in 2022.

And more good news followed for Bromsgrove with the club awarded an away walkover and three points by the Birmingham and District Football League.

The decision came after Desi FC fielded an ineligible player in their 4-3 opening day victory against Rovers.

That result, now expunged, lifts Rovers off the bottom of the Division One table and up to 10th place on six points.

Bromsgrove face Kingstone Alliance at the Pavilion at Birmingham City University on Saturday. Kick-off is 2pm and admission free.
