BROMSGROVE ROVERS AFC suffered an opening-day 3-1 defeat against North Solihull as they began life in Division Two of the Birmingham League, writes Neil Gordon.
Solihull took an early lead at Coleshill Road and were three goals up by half-time thanks to a Chad Wilkes strike and a brace from Didier Gore. Alex Hopper then reduced the arrears in the second-half as Bromsgrove played their first Birmingham League Division Two fixture following promotion.
Bromsgrove were a goal down as early as 8 minutes and were 3-0 adrift by half-time as Gore and Wilkes both found the net.
After the interval Hopper pulled a goal back for Bromsgrove but they were unable to reduce the deficit further and endured an opening day 3-1 defeat.
Bromsgrove will be looking to bounce back when they welcome Nechells Athletic to South Bromsgrove High School, Charford Road on Saturday. Kick-off is 2.30pm and admission free.
Elsewhere Matt Halliday had the distinction of scoring the first-ever goal for Rovers’ reserve team in their inaugural Birmingham League Division Six fixture on Saturday.
The newly-formed side shared eight goals in a thrilling 4-4 draw against Wake Green Amateurs’ D side at The Holloway following a late fixture switch, with Logan Postin’s brace and Connor Willis’ strike securing a share of the points.
The reserves’ side next face Sporting Athletic at the Sporting Athletic Academy, Wolverhampton on Saturday. Kick-off is 2.30pm and admission free.
