BROMSGROVE Rovers AFC will now have a home game on Saturday, March 2 after agreeing to switch venues following a request from opponents Birmingham University Medics (B), writes Neil Gordon.

The Greens’ Birmingham and District Football League Division Three match will now take place at South Bromsgrove High School, Charford Road, after availability issues meant the game could not take place as scheduled at the Four Dwellings Academy, Quinton, Birmingham.

Rovers’ will be going all-out to secure maximum points against bottom-of-the-league ‘Medics (B) as they look to move up to fifth in the table, should they win and results elsewhere go their way.

Kick-off is 2.30pm and admission is free at South Bromsgrove High School, Charford Road.

And the club’s under-14’s side have reached the final of the Midland Junior Premier League Trophy after beating Oldbury United thanks to a brace from Sam Spooner.

Rovers survived a first-half penalty scare to go into the break on level terms before Spooner’s double sent Bromsgrove through to the final.

Oldbury saw strong appeals for a penalty turned down by the referee before Tommie Foulkes fired just wide for Rovers at the other end.

The best chance of the first half fell to Oldbury as Nicholas Buselli’s effort rolled inches past the post as the opening 45 minutes finished goalless.

And after Mason Wilson was denied by the Oldbury goalkeeper when one-on-one after the break, Spooner put Bromsgrove ahead from Riley Steatham’s pass after he gathered goalkeeper Samson Reisner’s long ball up the pitch.

Rovers doubled their lead from a well-worked free-kick as Rio Depper-Gwilliams played the ball into Jacob Cheshire at the back post who cushioned a header into the path of Spooner who smashed a shot into the roof of the net.

The Greens held off some late Oldbury pressure to book their place in the final with Rovers to play Aylestone Park Youth.

A date, time and venue for the final will be announced in due course.
