BROMSGROVE Rovers AFC returned to winning ways and closed the gap at the top of the league with a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Nechells Athletic, writes Neil Gordon.
Jack Dawkins scored the Greens match-winner on the hour mark after Ash Pardoe’s first-half penalty cancelled out Melaku Hunter’s opener for Nechells at Rupert Street.
The result means Bromsgrove return to second in Division Two of the Birmingham and District League table, three points behind leaders Silhill who suffered a shock 3-1 defeat against Boldmere Sports and Social Falcons.
Rovers earned their first victory after back-to-back defeats and completed an excellent double over an in-form Nechells side looking to secure their fifth straight victory.
Bromsgrove fell behind for the third game running when Hunter opened the scoring for Nechells on 17 minutes after good work from Isiah Taylor, with the home side looking to avenge a 2-1 defeat against Rovers in September.
The Greens steadied and searched for an equaliser which arrived when Pardoe converted a penalty as half-time approached.
And Bromsgrove completed the turnaround after the break on 60 minutes when Dawkins put Rovers ahead to seal a crucial victory in the title race.
Bromsgrove play Walsall Phoenix on Saturday, March 29 with kick-off at 2.30pm at Charford Road and admission free.
