BROMSGROVE Rovers AFC have unveiled Phil Sargent as the club’s new manager to replace departing boss Spencer Machin, writes Neil Gordon.

Sargent replaces Machin in the Rovers AFC dugout after the latter stepped down following four years in charge of the club.

And Rebecca Ankorn will assist Sargent with the latter to complete his backroom team in due course.

Rovers chairman Kristian Rock said: “Once Phil made contact it quickly became clear that he was the perfect fit for the role, and the right person to lead the team forward.

“Phil has a great coaching pedigree, and he is raring to go.

“Having known Phil for several years and followed his progression within the game, it was an easy decision for the club to offer him the position.

“Phil is highly respected in local football and after speaking with a number of people, the feedback about him was overwhelmingly positive.

“We wish Phil and Rebecca all the success for the future, giving them a big Rovers welcome.”

Sargent holds a UEFA B coaching licence and has seven years’ experience coaching in both men’s and women’s football.

He triumphed in the women’s county cup in 2020 and achieved a quadruple, including the men’s county cup last season.

Rovers AFC have progressed from Division Three to Division One of the Birmingham and District Football League in just four seasons.

The club finished third in Division One last season and also won the Intermediate Cup.

Bromsgrove have also confirmed Garry Postin will remain reserve team manager while the club plan to form a new over-35s veteran’s team.
