ALVECHURCH won 4-3 against Stamford in a seven-goal thriller to stretch their unbeaten run to six matches in all competitions.

Church led by three goals just after half time as Dylan Allen-Hadley, DJ Campton-Sturridge and Jaanai Gordon put the home side in command at Lye Meadow.

However, two goals in the space of a minute kept Stamford in the contest before Nick Clayton-Phillips all but sealed the win for Church with three minutes left to play.

Stamford scored straight from the restart once more to set up a nervy finish as James Fry’s side held on to secure another impressive victory.

The result means Alvechurch now sit 13th in the Southern League Premier Central table.

Alvechurch broke the deadlock on 15 minutes when Allen-Hadley ran onto Ben Cassidy’s long ball in behind and benefitted from a ricochet off Daniel Wallis before finishing into an empty net.

And Church doubled their lead one minute before the break as Campton-Sturridge turned the ball home from close range after Wallis spilt Cassidy’s initial shot into the scorer’s path.

The hosts extended their advantage four minutes after the interval when Gordon let fly from 25-yards out and found the bottom left corner with Wallis at full stretch.

However, Stamford responded straight from the kick-off as Shaw slid in to turn Tendai Chitiza’s cross home at the back post.

And the visitors scored a near carbon-copy of their first goal just a minute later from the opposite side as Robert Morgan finished Jack Duffy’s cross from close range.

Fry’s men restored their two-goal cushion on 87 minutes when Clayton-Phillips finished into an empty net at the back post from Leo Brown’s square ball.

However, Church were once again caught out from the restart as substitute Thomas Siddons headed in from four-yards out after the home side failed to deal with Joe Burgess’s cross from the right.

Church held on in the remaining minutes to continue their fine run of form with the club now 14 points above the relegation zone.

Alvechurch are next in action away at Leiston on Saturday, February 24 with kick-off at 3pm at Victory Road.
