FOOTBALL - Alvechurch suffer first home defeat of year against Halesowen

JAMES Fry insists Alvechurch can not allow their 2-0 home defeat against Halesowen Town to derail their season.

Church lost at home for the first time since the turn of the year at Lye Meadow as quickfire second-half goals from Miracle Okafor and Ryan Boothe sealed the points for Halesowen.

And after suffering just a second defeat in their last 13 matches in all competitions, Fry insists his players must respond in their next outing against St Ives Town this weekend.

Fry said: “It’s fine margins, the game ebbed and flowed, there’s nothing in the game in the second half, we missed two big tackles and once they went one-nil up it was always going to be difficult.

“On another day we could have been ahead, it was nip and tuck and the first goal was always going to be crucial, even though we weren’t at our best we still created chances.

“We’ve done really well in 2024, we can’t let this derail us, we’ve got to make sure we turn up and put a performance in against St Ives.

“St Ives are a good, solid side, some of their results have been really impressive, we’ve just got to turn our levels up again a little bit now.”

Halesowen broke the deadlock on 62 minutes when Okafor fired in off the post from distance before Boothe doubled the away side’s lead five minutes later with a header from a corner.

Alvechurch host St Ives Town on Saturday, March 9 with kick-off at 3pm at Lye Meadow.
