JAMES Fry admits there is work to do in the summer after Alvechurch finished the season with a 3-2 defeat at St Ives Town.

All five goals came in a remarkable final 18 minutes at Westwood Road as Jaanai Gordon netted a brace for Church.

The result means Alvechurch finish the Southern League Premier Central season in 16th place as boss Fry successfully guided the club to safety and a Worcestershire Senior Cup triumph.

Fry said: “When all is said and done, we achieved what we set out to achieve, I’m proud of how we got out of that hole that we were in.

“Even behind closed doors we kept saying we were nearly there and then something clicked and we accelerated up the table.

“We haven’t had the end to the season that we would have wanted in terms of results but the performances have been really good and shown what we want to do moving forward.

“There’s work to do in the summer, we’ve got a pre-season plan in place, we’ve got to start putting the pieces together, the work starts now.”

St Ives eventually broke the deadlock on 72 minutes when Michael Richens fired home after Ronnie Hollingshead could only punch a long throw into the scorer’s path.

And the home side doubled their lead less than a minute later as Jonathan Edwards beat Hollingshead to a ball in behind the Church defence before finishing into an empty net.

However, the visitors reduced the deficit on 79 minutes when Gordon acrobatically finished a cross from the right.

And Church equalised three minutes later as Gordon finished from the penalty spot, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.

St Ives won a penalty of their own three minutes from time as Edwards stepped up and coolly sent Hollingshead the wrong way from the spot.
