ALVECHURCH suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat at home to Coalville Town as Church saw their winless run extend to seven matches in all competitions.

Mikey Taylor’s second half strike kept Church in the contest before the visitors scored two late goals to seal the points at Lye Meadow.

And the result means Alvechurch sit 18th in the Southern League Premier Central table, one place and one point above the relegation zone.

The home side almost took the lead on the quarter-hour mark as Ethan Patterson’s header came back off the crossbar before Jaanai Gordon blazed the rebound over the top.

Church goalkeeper Brad Foster then made a superb save at the other end to keep out a shot from six-yards out at his near post.

However, Coalville broke the deadlock in controversial fashion on 20 minutes when Tom McGlinchey’s shot deflected into the goal off of the hand of Kieran Cook.

Despite furious protests from James Fry’s side, the referee awarded the goal insisting the ball went in off of Cook’s shoulder.

And Church then made two goalline clearances in quick succession to twice deny Coalville’s Herve Pepe-Ngoma before Tim Berridge hit the post later in the half.

The visitors eventually doubled their lead on the stroke of half time when McGlinchey slotted an effort past Foster from Berridge’s through ball.

Church reduced the deficit on 67 minutes as Taylor smashed home from close range after his initial header from Josh Dugmore’s cross hit the post.

However, Coalville restored their two-goal lead on 79 minutes when Berridge finished well after Luke Shaw raced through on the counter attack.

And the visitors wrapped up the win in the final minute of regulation time as substitute Terell Pennant slid the ball home at the back post.

Alvechurch are next in action at home to Royston Town on Saturday, December 9 with kick-off at 3pm at Lye Meadow.
