FOOTBALL - Alvechurch come from behind twice to draw with Berkhamsted

JAANAI Gordon’s penalty in first-half injury time secured Alvechurch’s first away point of the season in a 2-2 draw at Berkhamsted.

Gordon’s spot kick drew Church level for a second time after Kai Adan George had equalised earlier in the first half at the Glencar Community Stadium.

And the result means Alvechurch sit 17th in the Southern League Premier Central table.

Playing their first game since the departure of former boss Ian Long, Church made the worst possible start as Mark Riddick’s header from a corner gave Berkhamsted the lead on six minutes.

Church responded well and drew level on 16 minutes when Jack Concannon slipped in Adan George who burst in the box and produced a composed finish into the bottom left corner.

Chances came and went for both teams before Berkhamsted reclaimed the lead on 37 minutes as Eduard Toiny-Pendred found the bottom left corner from just inside the penalty area.

However, Church equalised for a second time on the stroke of half time after Gordon drew a foul in the box and stepped up to score the resulting penalty.

The draw ends Church’s run of five successive defeats in all competitions this season.

Alvechurch are next in action at home to Leamington on Tuesday, September 26 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Lye Meadow.
