ALVECHURCH surrendered an early lead in a 2-1 defeat against Coalville Town in the club’s penultimate game of the season.

Church broke the deadlock on 19 minutes through Finley Thorndike’s goal only for Ashley Chambers to score either side of half time for the home side at the Mander Cruickshank Solicitors Stadium.

The result means Alvechurch sit 15th in the Southern League Premier Central table with one game left to play.

Church took the lead in style when Thorndike lashed a free-kick past Coalville goalkeeper Paul White from 25-yards out.

However, Coalville drew level on 37 minutes as Chambers created space for a shot in the box before curling a low shot into the bottom right corner.

And the home side completed the turnaround on 73 minutes when Chambers’ deflected shot went past a wrong-footed Ronnie Hollingshead.

Alvechurch finish the season away at St Ives Town on Saturday, April 27 with kick-off at 3pm at Westwood Road.
