Fitter departs Bromsgrove Sporting

BROMSGROVE Sporting defender Simon Fitter has departed the Rouslers and has joined up with Midland League Premier Division outfit Highgate United.

The 30-year-old, who registered 47 competitive appearances for the Rouslers in his two-year spell at the Victoria Ground, wanted to be guaranteed first team football but with boss Paul Smith bringing in Luke Edwards from Coleshill Town and Craig Jones, Daniel Morris, Jake Willcox and Lucky Nwosu all vying for the centre-half positions, Fitter felt it was best to move on.

Despite Fitter’s departure, Smith told the Standard he would not be looking for a replacement ahead of the 2016/17 Midland League Division One season.

“Simon’s at that part of his career where he wanted to be guaranteed a first team place and I completely understand that but unfortunately I can never make such a guarantee as there’s strong competition this year,” he said.

“He does not want to fight for a place and there’s no problems between us over that and I’d like to thank Simon for all he has done for the club.

“Something was going to give eventually as we have plenty of defensive cover so I wish Simon all the best but we won’t be looking for a replacement.”
