Fairfield ready for battle with Spartaks after drubbing of Bolehall

FAIRFIELD Villa kept momentum up with the top three in Midland League Division Two after a 5-2 thrashing of Bolehall Swifts at the Rene Road Ground.

Goals from Alfie Bloomer, Ellis Blakemore, Shay McNally and a Connor Collins brace got Fairfield off to a flyer for 2019, ahead of welcoming Barnt Green Spartak to the Recreation Ground tomorrow afternoon.

A save from Josh Goddard early in the first-half made a superb stop to keep the game scoreless, before Bloomer waltzed his way through the Bolehall defence to fire home his eighth goal of the season with great accuracy.

Fairfield were immediately pegged back by the hosts, but an incisive ball from Collins set free Blakemore on goal, who made his way en route to goal and stuck away past the Swifts keeper to put his side back in front.

Roles were reversed when Blakemore delivered from the wing for Collins to smash home a right-footed volley to give Fairfield a convincing lead at the break.

Collins notched his second and Fairfield’s fourth from the penalty spot after Bloomer was felled, the Fairfield striker slotted expertly into the left-hand corner despite the keeper going the same way.

A second goal for Bolehall cut the deficit but it would prove to be a mere consolation rather than a strike to galvanize a comeback from the hosts, as Shae McNally emerged from the bench to wrap up the scoring with his first senior goal.

Fairfield now hope they can maintain their unbeaten home record tomorrow against the Spartaks, though will have to be wary of top-goalscorer Darren Green – who sits on 11 for the season for the visitors.
