Fairfield looking to avenge Knowle defeat

FAIRFIELD Villa will be looking to avenge their 5-1 defeat to Knowle back in October this weekend knowing a win would edge them closer to the top half.

Villa currently sit eighth in the Midland League Division One table and were narrowly defeat by league leaders Rostance Edwards 2-1 at the weekend despite going ahead through Matt Seeley.

On Saturday, Villa welcome Knowle to the Recreation Ground and general manager Paul Oakes hopes his side can get the win.

“The last time we played each other it was a really embarrassing performance from us,” said Oakes.

“We only had 11 players and to make matters worse, we picked up two injuries early on meaning we played a good length of the match with nine men.

“We will be looking to avenge the defeat tomorrow without shadow of a doubt.”

Villa were unlucky to lose at the weekend, a late own-goal proved costly, allowing Rostance to snatch all three points to send them top of the table, leapfrogging Droitwich Spa in the process.

However, Oakes insisted that the performance on the day was an encouraging sign for his players.

“The result proved to me that our players are more than capable of mixing it up with the big boys”, he said.

“It was disappointing to lose by the odd goal but it is something we can take forward.”
