Evenson: Promotion all-but over for Bromsgrove

DISAPPOINTED skipper Mark Evenson believes Bromsgrove’s hopes of securing promotion from Birmingham League Division One are all-but over following their seven-wicket defeat to Bridgnorth.

Bromsgrove’s opening batsman Jayden Levitt (91) was dismissed with the total on 178-3 but just 34 runs later, the Boars were all out for 212.

Bridgnorth’s bowlers David Laird (4-47) and Adam Quiney (3-44) were responsible for the collapse on their return to the attack, paving the way for victory which was secured by Karl Quiney (90 not out) and David Exall (48no).

“After the defeat to Halesowen the previous weekend, the defeat to Bridgnorth was the final nail in the coffin,” said Evenson.

“We were in a strong position after winning the toss but we capitulated once again and we knew we were 40 or 50 runs short of a competitive total.

“Bridgnorth had a very good run chase and showed us how to bat.

“Every time we get into strong positions we seem to lost wickets in clusters and that’s been the story all season.

“Promotion is all-but over for us now but the aim now will be to try and finish as high as possible.”

Bromsgrove entertain Wellington on Saturday before playing host to Leamington on Monday.
