ECKINGTON claimed overall victory in the Wychavon Parish Games cross country event held on the Evesham parkrun course for the first time.

Some 90 runners took part from 16 parishes with the combined finishing positions of the athletes accounting for the final points total.

This meant the parish with the lowest total would claim victory and Eckington came out on top with 98 points ahead of Ashton-under-Hill who scored 124 points in a reversal of last year’s result.

Sedgeberrow were third with 167 points, Evesham Bengeworth were fourth with 208 points and Bretforton were just behind in fifth on 212 points.

Further back, Inkberrow were sixth and Offenham seventh while parishes from Badsey, Fladbury, Wick, Harvington, Wyre Piddle, Honeybourne, Broadway, Hill and Moor and Norton and Lenchwick all took part.

The overall individual winner was Jack Ramm from Bretforton while Schloetter Co Ltd sponsored the event.

And the next event of the Games is the bowls, sponsored by Pershore Bowls Centre, which will take place on Sunday, August 6 at Pershore Bowling Club.
