Brian McGuinness has been involved in coaching professionally for over 3 decades. A swimming coach by trade he has worked at grass roots level, all the way through to the top levels of the sport, including placing swimmers upon teams for Olympic Games & World Championships; as well as everywhere in between. He has produced national champions & record holders in a range of events & distances, at both Junior & Senior levels. He holds a degree in Sports Science, post grad diploma in Sports Coaching & an ASA Coaches Certificate (Level 4, the highest level achievable).
He was the first winner of the BSCA Alan Hime Memorial Award in 1991 for his work in producing a host of international competitors in a short period of time in Oldham, Gt Manchester. He is also a Fellow of the BSCA.He has experience working in sport within local government, schools, private clubs as well as regional and national governing bodies. He is a presenter, tutor & assessor within the ASA UKCC Level 3 Coach education programme.
His company CoachEdUK, provides educational & development support for coaches as well as representing coaches in employment law and respective sports law matters. He has been heavily involved for the last 15 years in representing the cases of coaches where child welfare & child protection concerns & allegations have been made. He works closely with the ASA, British Swimming & relevant statutory bodies in this regard.
Brian is also the Executive Director of the British Swimming Coaches Association (BSCA), a Board member of the World Swimming Coaches Association (WSCA) and provides legal advice to members of the Institute of Swimming (IOS).
His first passion however is working on the pool deck with the swimmers and he looks forward to a second stint of doing this at Droitwich Dolphins.
