Draper off to a flier as Fairfield progress

Bromsgrove Editorial 12th Sep, 2019   0

NEW manager Keith Draper celebrated victory in his first game in charge of Fairfield Villa as they ended a four-match losing run.

The Swans secured a 3-0 victory over Coton Green at the Recreation Ground to progress to the second round of the Presidents Cup, thanks to goals from Pete Jenvey, Alfie Bloomer and Scott Smith.

Setting up in a new-look formation, Fairfield were given a good test by the spirited Greens, who were kept out by Villa keeper Elliott Hart from an early opportunity.

Growing into the game, the hosts eventually gained the lead when Jenvey struck just before the break. The second half was a lot more straightforward for The Swans. They doubled their lead ten minutes after the interval when Bloomer unleashed a 45-yard lob over the keeper and into the net in emphatic fashion.

Smith sealed victory with a headed finish ten minutes later from a corner, while Dan Ludlow threatened to add to the lead when his shot crashed against the post.

Next up for The Swans is a trip to second-bottom Earlswood Town in a Midland Football League Division Two fixture on Saturday (3pm).
