BROMSGROVE’S Sam Jones claimed a double gold and a new championship record at the Midland Counties Athletic Association Championships over the weekend.
The 14-year-old North Bromsgrove High School pupil finished first in both the under-15 boys 200 metres and 300m races respectively at the Pingles Stadium in Nuneaton.
The Halesowen Athletics Club member ran the 300m in a time of 36.20 seconds to set a new championship record.
His record-breaking performance on Saturday was followed up on Sunday in the 200m heats as he record a personal best time of 23.26secs before clocking 23.27secs in the final.
Jones is currently the MCAA U15 60m and 200m indoor champion, the 200m and 300m outdoor champion as well as the Hereford & Worcester U15 100m and 200m county champion.
The MCAA Championships attracted around 500 athletes from across ten counties.
