BROMSGROVE B made light work of bottom-side Manor Park B with a 8-2 victory in Division Two of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Women’s Winter League on Sunday.

Third-placed Bromsgrove were in impressive form, taking control of the tie when Kelly Kenward and Hannah Weston beat Elaine Fleming and Penny Smith in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.

Sophie Cornelius and Joan McGregor built on the early advantage, downing Jennifer Poole and Marie Parsons 6-3, 7-6, before the Bromsgrove pair went down 6-1, 7-6 to Fleming and Smith in the third rubber.

Kenward and Weston then put the gloss on the points by seeing off Parsons and Poole 6-4, 6-2.

Bromsgrove C won by the same margin in Men’s Division Four East away to Bewdley C.

The 6-4, 7-6 success in the opening rubber for the visitors’ Simon Hailstone and Pete Morris against David Meek and Michael Rosoman got the ball rolling.

Bewdley’s Jason Curtis and William Everley provided a tougher test in the second match, although Bromsgrove still managed to come out on top.

After losing the opening set, Tim Wright and Dan Andrews came back to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, before losing their second match 6-2, 6-3 to Meek and Rosoman.

Hot-shots Hailstone and Morris swept aside Curts and Everley with ease in the final encounter, winning 6-1, 6-1.

Bromsgrove are now up to second in the table, level on points with Droitwich C, albeit having played a game more.
