Dazzling start helps Sporting Club Redditch through Minor Cup test

SPORTING Club Redditch continued their unbeaten start to the season to progress in the Worcester Nursing Minor Cup with a 5-1 win against Stoke Works.

Sporting Club were one of five Bromsgrove League clubs to enjoy victories, with the game all but decided inside 15 minutes when they led 3-0. Mal Williams and Ryan Field both scored twice and Brett Skinner was also on target with new signing Paul Badger replying.

Luke Rainbow was Spa Athletic’s hat-trick hero in Spa Athletic’s 5-0 success against Worcester Saints Reserves. Jack Weatherby and Phil Burton also scored.




Hizza United also hit five, winning 5-0 away to Oldbury Park Tigers, while Dave Lewis and Rob Thomas were the scorers in Winyates’ 2-1 win at Worcester side Eaton Rovers. Ryan Molesworth (2), Josh Mitchell and Ed Tear netted for Bromsgrove Corinthians in their 4-3 home verdict against FC Korono.

The only BDFL side to bow out were Studley Lions, whose unbeaten start to the campaign ended in a 3-1 defeat at Arrow, despite Nick Briggs smashing a 25-yard free-kick into the net.


In the Worcester Nursing Junior Cup, Bartley Green Illey Sunday had an impressive 3-1 win against Worcester League high-fliers The Gloster Arms, with a Dan Taylor header, Connor Collins’s low shot and Carl Martin’s penalty settling the tie.

FC Highgate United progressed with a 3-2 success against Ale Madrid, but there were exits for FC Pilkington Sunday and Millfield Rovers.

Black Horse confirmed their place as group winners in the Bromsgrove and Redditch Standard Shield, thanks to a 5-1 win at Chaddesley Corbett. Shay Palmer (2), Brad Birch, Aaron Xavier put the visitors 4-0 ahead at half-time and though Lewis Phillips replied Dave Edwards rifled home a fifth from 20 yards.

Belbroughton also look in a good position to progress from their group, winning 4-2 against Quinton, with Anton Gardner-Bennett and Matt Carter among the scorers.

Division Three high-fliers Arrow Valley produced an upset in the Bridgwater Cup, with Garry Harvey, Rob Voice and Darryl King on target in a 3-0 win against Division Two side AFC Northfield.

Redditch United Sunday hit back from conceding an early goal to win 4-2 at FC Bromsgrove, with Jake Wicketts, Tony Herbert, Declan Sanders and Leon Hewitt finding the net. Shaun Nash and a 50-yard rocket from Curtis Holdam netted for the hosts.

In the Premier Division, Reiss Brians’ late strike earned Northfield Athletic a 3-2 win against Thomas Brothers after they had trailed 2-0 at half-time. Josh Moore netted twice to level matters.

Jack Steele bagged five goals as Oak Tree Sporting ran out 7-1 winners against Sporting Rednal in Division One. Rory Milbourne and Richard Lynch also scored for Oak Tree, with JJ Evans replying.

Ellis Kalach netted on his debut for Red Lion won 2-0 against Bromsgrove Athletico to go joint top with Rubery. Kieren Madden was the other scorer.

Rubery Legends produced the biggest score of the day, slamming Chaddesley Corbett Reserves 6-1 in Division Three with goals from Jake Booton (2), Jahmel Trevis (2), Luke Parker and Chris Gee, while the Millfield Rovers Reserves v Laburnum clash also produced seven goals, Millfield winning 5-2. Bren Bartlett and Ash Roland both scored twice, with Stuart Hatfield also converting a penalty.
