DAVID Lloyd Bromsgrove A bolstered their promotion hopes after dismantling Bewdley A in a 10-0 whitewash in the Herefordshire & Worcestershire Women’s Winter League.

Cutnall Green A (44 points) currently top Division Three East, having played two games more than DL Bromsgrove (28 pts).

DL’s Karen Swindells and Elisabeth Johnston had to go through three sets to get the better of Bewdley duo Lesley Perrin and Nancy Sylvester in a 7-6, 4-6, 7-6 encounter.

There was less trouble for Wendy Goodhill and Linda Russell though, easing to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Lucinda Odell and Karen Vernon in rubber two.

The same DL pairing again came to the fore against Perrin and Sylvester, this time only dropping a single game in their 6-1, 6-0 win.

Bromsgrove’s demolition job was completed by Swindells and Johnston after a 6-3, 6-4 triumph against Odell and Vernon confirmed maximum points.

In Division Two of the open mixed doubles, leaders Barnt Green A were shocked by David Lloyd Bromsgrove A in an 8-2 humbling on home turf.

Playing a part in another DL success was Goodhill, who began her partnership with Liam Hadfield with a 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 win over Martyn Langston and Rachel Scott.

Green’s James Flynn and Beth Harris had no answer to David Lloyd hotshots Henry Myatt and Johnston – the other female player to appear twice at the weekend – in a 6-4, 6-3 defeat.

Langston and Scott were beaten for the second time of the afternoon, this time by Myatt and Johnston, in a 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 win for Bromsgrove that guaranteed them the majority of the points.

Barnt Green prevented themselves from the humiliation of a whitewash when Flynn and Harris roared to a convincing 6-4, 6-1 victory over Hadfield and Goodhill.

Green stay top on 30 points, with Droitwich A and DL Bromsgrove A trailing on 26 points apiece.
