CRICKET - Much-changed Barnt Green beaten by six wickets

BARNT Green CC fell to a six-wicket defeat against Smethwick CC as a much-changed side was unable to back up their opening day win in the Birmingham and District Premier Cricket League Premier Division One.

Barnt Green were without Ed Pollock due to county commitments with Jaques Banton, Olly Stone and Darryl Williams also missing.

And the visitors then lost the toss before being bowled out for 182 as Smethwick reached the required total for the loss of just four wickets in 44 overs.

Barnt Green slumped to 76-6 before an impressive knock of 56 from number eight Robbie Shurmer helped the away side post a respectable total.




And Barnt Green reduced Smethwick to 35-4 only to put down opener Kadeer Ali who finished on 99 not out supported by Amritpal Singh’s 64 not out.

Shurmer (2-18) was also the pick of the Barnt Green bowlers with Andrew Sutton (2-45) taking the other wickets.


Elsewhere,Barnt Green’s 2nd XI coasted to a nine-wicket win against Oldswinford CC after they skittled their opponents for just 79.

Jack Felton was the pick of the bowlers with 4-25 whilst Daniel Meredith took impressive figures of 3-8 from his eight overs.

Barnt Green chased the total down in just 19.2 overs with Fergus Roll (21 not out), Meredith (27) and Joe McGovern (13) scoring the runs.

Lastly, Barnt Green’s 3rd XI beat rivals Halesowen by 90 runs after posting 277 all out before restricting their opponents to 137.

Barnt Green’s 1st XI are next in action against Ombersley CC on Saturday, April 30 with the game set to begin at 12pm (midday) at Cherry Hill Road.
