JAYDEN Levitt’s century helped Bromsgrove Cricket Club to a huge 142-run victory against Bridgnorth as the Boars secured their first outright win of the season.

Levitt’s 127 off 164 balls outscored Bridgnorth’s entire team total after the Boars bowled their opponents out for just 99 having posted 241-5 from their 55 overs.

The result means Bromsgrove sit sixth in the Birmingham and District Premier League Premier Division Two table.

Bridgnorth won the toss and elected to field although Bromsgrove’s openers made a strong start with a 59-run first-wicket stand before Amaan Hassan (16) fell to the bowling of Matt Simmonds (1-39).

And the Boars had passed a century of runs when number three Lucas Ingram (22) was trapped lbw by Sam Baugh (3-51).

A flurry of quick wickets threatened to derail Bromsgrove’s innings as Baugh quickly accounted for Andrew Kimberlin (7) and Joshua De Souza (1) to leave the Boars on 120-4.

However, a 119-run fifth-wicket partnership between opener Levitt and Zakariah Abbas (50 not out) put the Boars firmly on top.

Levitt eventually fell to Peter Scott (1-28) having hit 16 boundaries in an impressive knock whilst Abbas  hit a half-century off just 47 balls as Bromsgrove closed on 241-5.

The Boars made an immediate impact with the ball as Simmonds (9) fell to the bowling of Gareth Williams (1-13) before Lucas Ingram ran out Seb Scott (1) to leave Bridgnorth on 25-2.

And the wickets continued to tumble as Henry Marshall (5-43) ripped through Bridgnorth’s middle order with the quick wickets of David Laird (9), Sam Whitney (20) and Ian Gregory (6).

Further wickets from Alex Wilkinson (2-31) and Marshall’s fourth scalp of the innings left Bridgnorth in serious trouble on 81-8.

Jaspreet Singh (26) top scored for Bridgnorth whilst Baugh (10) made double figures as Marshall and James Bayliss (1-4) wrapped up a comfortable win having bowled Bridgnorth out for 99 in 28.1 overs.

Bromsgrove are next in action away at Worfield on Saturday, June 10 with the action to begin at midday at Davenport Park.
