BROMSGROVE CC survived a late burst from Netherton to hold onto a draw but lost ground on their title rivals.
The Boars closed on 232-9 in reply to Netherton’s 301-6 at St. Godwalds Park.
Bromsgrove took seven points from the fixture while Netherton came away with 18 points.
The result means Bromsgrove sit third in the Worcestershire County League Premier Division table,
Bromsgrove won the toss and elected to field only for Netherton openers Haaris Syed (83) and Abdul Hadi (53) to put on 107 runs for the first wicket.
Abdullah Ejaz (2-64) eventually broke up the partnership as he accounted for both of Netherton’s openers.
Further runs from Ayushman Basu (27), Amaan Khan (59 not out) and Armaan Akhtar (43) boosted the away side’s total as Netherton went beyond the 300-run mark.
Ryan Pedley (3-65) proved the only other Boars bowler to strike with the ball as the home side chased a mammoth total for victory.
Bromsgrove lost opener Adeel Sajid (5) in the fourth over of their reply while Liam Ridings (13) also fell cheaply.
However, opener and captain Jayden Levitt (74) and Alex Milton (63) combined for a 128-run third-wicket stand.
Levitt and Milton both recorded half-centuries as the former smashed three maximums.
Both batters fell in quick succession to the bowling of Sakandar Farooq (3-39) which left the Boars on 173-4 in the 40th over.
A quickfire knock from Ejaz (25) in an 11-ball innings proved the highlight of Bromsgrove’s lower order as Netherton moved within one wicket of an outright victory.
However, Connor Andrews (1 not out) survived 14 deliveries to ensure the game ended in a draw.
Bromsgrove are next in action against Worcester CC on Saturday, July 25 with play to begin at 12pm(midday) at the Gordon Jones Memorial Ground.
