BROMSGROVE suffered a seven-wicket defeat to Ombersley in the inaugural Worcestershire County League Sunday Slam Hundred Cup final at the County Ground at New Road.

The Boars posted 120-8 from their one-hundred balls, including an impressive 51 from Henry Dwyer, but the team’s display was 20 runs short of a winning score.

Victory was in Bromsgrove’s grasp heading into the last 10 balls with Ombersley still needing 17 runs to secure the cup.

However, the visitors struck three sixes in the space of eight deliveries to pass Bromsgrove’s total with three balls to spare.

Bromsgrove were put into bat by Ombersley and started well with Matt Russell and Dwyer putting on 40 runs for the first wicket.

Dwyer went on to make 51 runs from 37 balls but could not find a stable partnership before being caught and bowled by Jack Park.

The Boars’ other batters failed to make above 15 as Ashley Damn (3-15 ) ripped through the middle order.

Ombersley took control of the tie after Declan Lines and David Brazier put on 70 runs for the opening wicket.

Tom Cosh then blasted 21 runs from just eight balls, which included a huge six to secure the trophy for Ombersley.
