BROMSGROVE CC suffered a disappointing 10-wicket defeat at the hands of Lichfield after they were skittled for 83 in the Birmingham and District Premier League Division Two clash.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat as openers Connor Smith (9) and Greg Chinn (16) fell cheaply before captain Alex Milton was dismissed for nine to leave Bromsgrove on 39-3.

And the wickets continued to tumble as Lucas Ingram (7), Freddie Fallows (3), Alex Wilkinson (1) and Ryan Pedley (0) all failed to reach double figures.

Henry Dwyer top scored with 27 to lift Bromsgrove from 60-7 to 80-8 before Michael Wyres (4) and Mark Meacham (0) were both caught as Bromsgrove were bowled out for 83 in 32 overs.

Lichfield made light work of the run chase as Tom Swift smashed 55 off 42 balls and Thomas Stone hit 25 to secure a 10-wicket win in 12.3 overs.

The club’s 2nd XI also tasted defeat after they lost by five wickets to Burghill, Tillington and Weobley in the Worcestershire County League Division Two.

Batting first, Bromsgrove’s Matthew Russell (35) and Mark Bilbrough (57) combined for an impressive 93-run third-wicket partnership after Jack Bilbrough and Ethan Dalloway were both dismissed for ducks.

However, the partnership came to an end when both batters were dismissed with Bromsgrove on 95 as Adam Jones (34) and Alistair Hickman (30) went about rebuilding the innings.

The pair put on 46 runs for Bromsgrove’s sixth wicket before captain Jones was caught.

Jacob Matthews added 10 runs to the total from as many balls as Bromsgrove finished on 173-7 from their 50 overs.

And Burghill made a strong start in reply as opener Jack Stockdale made 55 before a spate of wickets kept Bromsgrove in the contest as Jake Kinderman (12), Luke Powell (6) and Whizz Ettinger (18) were all dismissed.

However, Owen Morgan recorded an unbeaten half-century to take Burghill to victory on 176-5 in 43.4 overs with Dalloway (2-27) the pick of the Bromsgrove bowlers.

Bromsgrove’s 3rd XI secured a 48-run win in Division Four against Five Ways Old Edwardians to move further clear of the relegation zone.

Opener Matthew Dallaway top scored with 78 whilst captain Harry Smith added 64 in the middle order and formed a strong partnership with David Collins (37).

Bromsgrove finished strongly as Edward Barnes and Timothy Barnes both finished on 16 not out to take the visitors to 262-7.

The home side saw impressive knocks from James East (46), James Hamilton (45), Khizar Khan (44) and Matt Stanczyszyn (37) on their way to 214 all out in 42.5 overs.

Chris Burford (3-68) starred with the ball for Bromsgrove with E Barnes (2-38) and William Dallaway (2-49) both taking two wickets apiece whilst the latter was also responsible for the crucial run out of East.

Lastly, Bromsgrove’s 4th XI claimed a 30-run win against Five Ways Old Edwardians 2nds thanks to a fine batting display from captain Thomas Hope in Division Seven.

Hope opened the batting and scored the bulk of Bromsgrove’s runs before he eventually departed for 94 and was one of four batters to reach double figures as they posted 200-8 from their 45 overs.

In reply, Harry Giles shone with the ball to take figures of 3-15  whilst Jai Bushell (3-33) and Dylan Williams (2-28) also did the damage to bowl out their opponents for 170.

Bromsgrove are next in action at home to Bridgnorth CC on Saturday, July 16 with the game set to begin at midday at St. Godwalds Park.
