CRICKET - Bromsgrove beaten by Harborne in high-scoring affair

BROMSGROVE CC suffered a 43-run defeat to Harborne despite another fine century from Alex Milton in a high-scoring Birmingham Premier League Division Two clash.

Milton (132) formed a huge partnership with Connor Smith (73) as the pair put on 123 runs for Bromsgrove’s third wicket in vain.

Harborne won the toss and elected to bat as opener Swapnil Gugale scored a majestic 169, which included 25 boundaries, as the home side cruised their way to 224-4.

Boars player Freddie Fallows (3-71) eventually accounted for Gugale who was supported by Jamie Harris (35), Adam Carter (24) and Jimmy Clifford (61).

Bromsgrove pair James Bayliss (2-64) and Alex Wilkinson (2-84) both claimed two wickets apiece but were unable to prevent Harbone posting a massive 353-8 from their 50 overs.

However, the Boars showed great heart in reply despite slipping to 44-2 after losing both openers Fallows (31) and Jayden Levitt (1).

Milton and Smith took Bromsgrove to 291-8 before the former departed with Ryan Pedley (26) the only other batter to add any significant runs as they were bowled out for 310 in 48 overs.

However, the visitors clinched victory after 48.3 overs as they reached 217-6 despite the best efforts of Greg Chinn (3-27).

The club’s 3rd XI claimed an 87-run win against Romsley and Hunnington after bowling their opponents out for 149 with Chris Burford and Edward Barnes taking four wickets apiece.

Lastly, the club’s 4th XI were thrashed in a nine-wicket defeat at Tenbury Wells despite promising scores from Ian Ingram (84) and Richard Barnes (77).
