BARNT Green CC returned to winning ways with a convincing seven-wicket victory against Ombersley CC in the Birmingham and District Premier League Division One.
The victors lost the toss and were forced to bowl first as Ombersley frustrated the Barnt Green bowlers, reaching 200-4 with 10 overs of the innings remaining.
Ombersley put on 149 for their third wicket as Nick Hammond (65) and Liam Gwynne (78) put the visitors in control.
However, some tight bowling and good fielding from the home side restricted Ombersley to 257-8 with Andy Sutton (3-28) the pick of the bowlers.
Barnt Green stumbled to 40-3 in their reply before a captain’s knock of 116 not out from Dom Harding, off of just 107 balls, along with Jacques Banton’s 95 not out, saw the hosts put on 221 for their fourth wicket.
The remarkable fourth wicket partnership saw Barnt Green claim a comfortable seven-wicket victory with five overs to spare.
Barnt Green’s 2nd XI continued their bright start to the season with a 40-run win away at Pedmore CC in Worcestershire County League Division One.
The visitors reached 213 before they were bowled out in 48.1 overs which was built around a fine knock of 94 from Dan Meredith whilst Milan Dogra hit a useful 35 from 23 deliveries.
Pedmore could only manage 173 all out in reply with Meredith taking 2-24 with Jack Felton 3-24 the pick of the Barnt Green bowlers.
Barnt Green’s 3rd XI slipped to a 93-run defeat against Hanley Castle in Division Five as the visitors posted a formidable 276 before bowling out the home side for 183 with captain Adam Potter scoring 53 in vain.
Barnt Green’s 1st XI are next in action away at Moseley CC on Saturday, May 7 with the game set to begin at 12pm at Moseley Cricket Club on Streetsbrook Road.
