BARNT Green CC battled to a five-wicket win against Moseley to sit third in the Birmingham and District Premier League Premier Division One table.

Having won the toss and elected to field, Barnt Green made a promising start when they reduced the home side to 47-3 only for a solid partnership between former Warwickshire batsman Andrew Umeed (76) and Asim Shoaib (26) to frustrate the visitors.

However, wickets fell at regular intervals for the remainder of the innings as Barnt Green eventually bowled Moseley out for 211 in the 49th over.

Tom Banton (3-39) was the pick of the Barnt Green bowlers with Cameron Jones, Adam Hines and Andrew Sutton all taking two wickets apiece.

Despite losing opener Romi Bear for two runs, Ben Chapman-Lilley’s 65 not out was supported by Jacques Banton’s 40 and Dominic Harding’s 51 as Barnt Green reached the 212 target with three overs and five wickets to spare.

The club’s 2nd XI were also successful as they recorded a comfortable 140-run win against Worcester CC’s 1st XI in Division One of the Worcestershire County League.

Barnt Green amassed 249-9 from their 50 overs which was built around Dan Meredith’s 107 and Milan Dogra’s quickfire 46 from 33 balls.

Worcester were in trouble early in their reply as Jack Felton (2-12) dismissed both openers before they fell well behind the required run rate due to some very tight bowling.

Wickets inevitably tumbled as Fergus Roll claimed figures of 3-16 with Worcester eventually bowled out for 115.

However, Barnt Green’s 3rd XI were thrashed by Droitwich Spa as they were skittled for just 73 to suffer a heavy 155-run defeat in Division Five.

Despite losing four early wickets, Droitwich posted a commanding total of 228 as dropped catches allowed Karl Goddard (64) and Kaz Singh (46) to guide Spa to a high score.

Charlie Davies (4-32) and Jake Johnstone (3-39) were the pick of the Barnt Green bowlers as the total proved too much for the away side who collapsed to 73 all out with only Adam Potter (22) managing any resistance.

Barnt Green’s 1st XI host Shifnal CC in their next league fixture on Saturday, May 14 with the game set to begin at midday at Cherry Hill Road.

The club’s 2nd XI travel to Chaddesley Corbett on the same day at 12.30pm whilst their 3rd XI host Pedmore on the same day also at 12.30pm.
