AVONCROFT Cricket Club’s under-9’s team won the Worcestershire County League title in their age group on finals day at Himley Cricket Club.

Some 34 teams entered the competition which took place over nine leagues with the top nine teams across the divisions advancing to finals day.

And Avoncroft topped their league ahead of local rivals Bromsgrove, Alvechurch and Barnt Green to progress to finals day where they beat Himley and Worcester in a round robin to reach the semi-finals.

Further victories against Bewdley in the semi-final and Barnards Green in the final saw Avoncorft take home the shield.

The team comprised of Josh Walker (captain), Emily Rowlands, Zac Lynch, Oliver Bishop, Alex Green, Max Mitchell, Euan Danks, Hugh Brogan and Mohammad Sultan.

Head coach, Jason Danks, said: “It’s a proud day for the club and the players, to win the county finals is a fantastic achievement, following a runners-up performance at under-8’s in 2022.

“I am so proud of all the players who contributed across all nine league games.

“Special praise to the players in the finals day squad who were excellent, delivering fun-filled  high-level performances with bat, ball and in the field, to consistently overcome strong opposition to win all their games on finals day, becoming Worcestershire county under-9’s champions.

“I am lucky to have such a great group of kids to coach and they are fully deserving of their success this year after all the hard work they have put in to develop their skills.”
