BROMSGROVE’S Lili-Rose Hunt secured third place at the national final of the American Golf Junior Championship after taking on qualifiers from all over the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Competing in the Girls Handicap category at Gainsborough Golf Club, headquarters to golf manufacturers Ping, Hunt put in a fantastic display on a difficult course.

She recorded a final total of 26 points, matching that of Grace Rigby Walden from Gerrards Cross who came in second after better on the last nine holes.

Hunt fell just three points short of Southwell junior Madeleine Smith who took the win.

Daniel Gathercole, director of marketing and communications at American Golf said: “The golf, sportsmanship and camaraderie on show really has been first class.

“Some of the best junior golfers in the UK & Ireland have turned out to play in the Championship this year so the competition has been intense.

“But never within that cauldron of competition has any player lost sight of the fact that we’re here first and foremost to have fun and celebrate our love of the game of golf.”
