BROMSGROVE Tennis Club’s women’s A side are locked in the race for the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Division One title after winning their opening two rounds in the Summer League.
Beating Stourbridge A 8-6 in rubbers, the duos of Rachael Mack and Imogen Sinclair, Sally Franks and Katherine Smedley, and Kelly Kenward and Hannah Weston all battled hard to earn crucial points for the club.
Mack and Sinclair won the opening contest against Joanne Skym and Ellen Doyle 6-0, 6-0 in straight sets, whilst Franks and Smedley beat Sarah Griffiths and Kerry Hill 6-3, 7-6 in their opener.
Kenwart and Weston lost to Julie Brown and Tracey Jones, but Mack and Sinclair made amends by beating the Stourbridge duo 6-0, 6-0.
The final two matches resulted in defeat, with Franks and Smedley losing 3-6, 2-6 to Skym and Doyle, but Weston and Kenward did at least win a set for Bromsgrove and another point despite losing 6-3, 0-6, 5-7 to Griffiths and Hill.
The women’s A team are next in action on Wednesday (June 12), when visiting second-bottom Droitwich, who have won just one set in their two matches so far.
