BROMSGROVE Tennis Club’s Ladies’ F team are celebrating after being crowned champions.

The Ladies’ F team won the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Ladies Winter League Division Nine East, after taking 46 points from their six games in the tournament, finishing four points clear of Cutnall Green C on 46 points.

It was a stunning debut from the side at the level, considering they had only been promoted the previous season.

Elsewhere, the Bromsgrove Mixed D team hosted Belbroughton on Saturday, but fell to defeat.

The visitors dealt better with the difficult conditions and beat a Bromsgrove side consisting of the duos of Barry Ross (captain) and Anne Simper, and Justin Kai and Sarah Davies.

On Sunday, Bromsgrove Ladies D team faced Bromsgrove Ladies E. It brought a competitive but well-fought contest to the court, with the D team winning all six of their games.

The E pairing of Sue Corfield and Jane Corbett lost out in the first set 5-7 to Claire Hancock and Di Horton, who then added the second set in more straightforward fashion, winning 6-1.

Hancock and Horton found their way past Bromsgrove Ladies E team’s Annabel Whitmore and Clare Nisbet 7-6, 7-5.

Corfield and Corbett again fought hard, but lost out in their second match to Sue Murray and Nicola Calthorpe.

They did, to their credit, take the match to three sets, with Murray and Calthorpe winning 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.

Murray and Calthorpe followed up with a win over Clare Carter and Wendy Fenton in their second match, overturning a first set loss to win 5-7, 6-0, 6-2.

In the final match-up, Yvonne Priestman and Rosalind Cooke beat Whitmore and Nisbett 6-2, 6-2, followed by a 6-0, 6-1 win against Carter and Fenton.
