Bromsgrove Tennis Club's Ladies Open hailed huge success

A RECORD number of entries attended Bromsgrove Tennis Club’s annual Ladies Open.

Forty players from all over the country travelled from as far as Ludlow and Bridgnorth to take part in last Wednesday’s competition.

The early rounds were in a league format with the four top scores progressing to the next round.

Scorer Richard Perrins had his work cut out as a number of pairs were separated by just one or two games.

After two tense semi-finals, Angie Street with Jan Mason from Worcester made it through to the final to face Bromsgrove’s own Lorraine Russell with Beccy Smith.

It was a tough match for Russell and Smith, who play for Bromsgrove C in Division Four East of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Summer League, as Street and Mason play for Division One side Worcester.

The opposition’s class showed as they took the top prize in a great final.

Organiser Sue Forest said: “It was a perfect day for tennis and everyone had a great time, with our visitors complementing the club and the organisation of the tournament.

“A lot of people helped make it all run smoothly and I couldn’t have done it without them.

“We’re already planning next year’s event and with the great feedback we hope we will attract even more players.”
